2022 marked exactly 50 years since Georgetown closed its astronomy department housed in our historical Heyden Observatory. Since then, though much has changed in the discipline of space science, the passion for space remains on campus through the efforts of students and student-led groups such as the Georgetown University Space Initiative and the Georgetown University Astronomical Society. This article outlines the history of the astronomy department, the importance of space on campus today, and what students are doing now to keep the legacy of Georgetown Astronomy alive.
